Q: What type of pegmatites can be good host for Nb, Ta and Uranium? Whether such pegmatites are originated by magmatic differentiation or hydrothermal processes? In what type of terrain such pegmatites are found? Which age of pegmatite is most favorable for uranium?

The pegmatites are the store house of minerals. For Nb and Ta minerals the most suitable pegmatites are essentially those which are formed in late magmatic stage, high temperature process and are granitic to anatectic -migmatite-cesium-tantalum (LCT) type in composition, formed by magmatic differentiation. The hydrothermal processes are not suitable for such type of mineralisation. The Zoned pegmatites are the favourable targets and the Nb is more than Ta in the outer zone and vice versa in the inner zone. Some minor signatures of hydrothermal alteration may be seen along post magmatic pegmatite fractures. Metasomatic alterations are however prevalent in some of the world examples. The mineralised pegmatites mostly fall within the Late Archaen-Early Proterozoic period, common in Pan-African Orogenic belts (500–600 Ma),Grenville-age terrain, e.g. Rossing Namibia.
